Board of Elders

The Board of Elders serves as leaders in the spiritual life and development of the congregation, assisting the ministers by sharing in their pastoral and priestly functions and providing supportive counsel to the ministers regarding the spiritual life and development of the congregation.

The Board of Elders' responsibilities:

  • holding regularly scheduled meetings, under the leadership of a chairperson.
  • presiding at the Lord's Table.
  • visiting the sick and shut-ins.
  • encouraging by example and word the missionary, evangelistic, and stewardship responsibilities of the congregation.
  • regular attendance at all meetings of the general board.
  • making determinations regarding scholarships and directing the expenditure of scholarship funds.
  • providing the pastor(s) with an annual evaluation of the over-all performance of his/her duties and submitting recommendations relative to its evaluation to the human resources functional department.
  • holding in December a joint meeting of all current and newly elected elders, for the purpose of discussing and evaluating the total church program for the past year. Recommendations will then
    be made to the ministers and moderator elect of the General Board, for their guidance during the coming year.
